Hamilton’s Main Street Manager Joni Hoxsey addressed the Hamilton City Council during a called meeting on Tuesday of last week to recommend an engineering firm to assist the City of Hamilton in completing the application process and to provide project-related engineering services for the 2020 Historic Main Street Texas Community Development Block Grant Downtown Revitalization/Main Street Project.

Newly licensed grads take cosmo to new levels

Avery Finstad, Curry Blanchard and Jordan Luker graduated in May and as of last week are licensed cosmetologists. The three ladies attended Hamilton High School Cosmetology program. Luker was a student at Hamilton High School while Blanchard and Finstad attended Jonesboro High School.

“Our counselor took us to visit during my sophomore year,” said Finstad. “It took some getting use to. I wasn’t able to have some of the same classes, but my counselor was a big help.”

The Shive Volunteer Fire Department had to call off its annual fish fry because of the COVID-19 virus, but that doesn’t mean you can’t send them a donation.

That fish fry is a very large part of their working-income for the year. So let’s go ahead and send in our donation to the Shive VFD. Donations are always welcomed and appreciated. Let’s keep our SVFD going all year. Donations can be mailed to Shive VFD, 170 CR 518, Hamilton, TX 76531.

Red all over

Two weeks ago, me, the HHN team and families went to the beach.

Little Bro got a crab. He named it Joe and did not want to let it go back in the water.

At night we played Uno Flip, Phase 10, Center Left Right and Bananagrams.

The second day we caught 106 hermit crabs and one real crab. We got boogie boards to play on. Suprisingly, I was good riding the waves on it. We built sand castles and dug holes. We jumped waves, swam and had a good time.

I got a really bad sunburn.

2020 will be remembered for a lot of negative events – coronavirus, murder hornets, riots, protests and mystery seeds from China.

The United States Department of Agriculture is aware that people across the country have received suspicious, unsolicited packages of seed that appear to be coming from China. USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is working closely with the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection, other federal agencies and state departments of agriculture to investigate the situation. SOCIAL-DISTANCED BAND-After five months out of action, Hamilton High School Bulldog Band began rehearsals Monday in the Chandler Craig Auditorium. Students were spaced three seats apart and masked between numbers in order to prevent spread of COVID-19. Above, tuba players Konner Ford, Leo Olalde and MacKinsy Morgan. School starts next Thursday, and HHS teams also have been practicing for the beginning of football, volleyball and cross country seasons. 

 

Faculty gets ready, school starts Aug. 13

Hamilton Independent School District faculty converged upon the district’s three campuses Monday to prepare for students’ return next Thursday, Aug. 13.

“Our teachers came back today with a great attitude and are going over health and safety protocols and getting their classrooms in order,” Superintendent Clay Tarpley said Monday afternoon.
