Census results shape future of schools

Results from the 2020 Census are important to school districts across the country – whether fast growing or not – because they provide a baseline for the next 10 years of school planning.

School districts use the numbers to ensure there are enough buildings and classrooms for children as they move through the school system.

COVID up by 6

Hamilton County COVID-19 cases increased by six this week, according to county Health Authority Dr. Randy Lee. Death, with 42 test results pending as of Tuesday afternoon.

Dr. Lee said regional intensive care unit beds remain scarce because of the virus, making it hard to transfer critically ill patients to other facilities. He said Hamilton County has had four deaths total - all older than 65 - over the course of the pandemic.

Hamilton County commissioners Tuesday morning decided to replace the power unit of the elevator in the courthouse annex; were brought up to date on Census 2020; approved interlocal agreements with the City of Hamilton and Hamilton Independent School District for the November election; decided to post COVID-19 statistics on the county website; and voted to shorten a county road in Precinct 4.

Hamilton Independent School District has announced its policy for providing free and reduced-price meals for children served under income eligibility guidelines. Each school/site or the central office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by anyone on request.
