TxDOT urges drivers to plan a sober ride Labor Day weekend

WACO – While there may be less traffic on the roads this Labor Day weekend, TxDOT is urging those who choose to go out and celebrate to plan ahead for a sober ride before any drinking begins.

COVID clears nursing homes

Hamilton County’s Health Authority Dr. Randy Lee announced that one of Hamilton County’s nursing homes is now COVID clear as active cases continue to trend downward in Hamilton County this week.

Monday Hamilton Healthcare System reported 29 active cases of 101 total positive cases.

With schools and sporting events resuming, officials say it is still important to practice preventative measures like wearing masks, washing hands and socially distancing.

UIL fires warning shot

A seemingly harmless picture of unmasked Stephenville Yellow Jacket football fans attending an inter-squad football scrimmage posted on social media grabbed the attention of the University Interscholastic League last week, prompting a firm slap on the hand from the governing body.

In any other year, the picture would have served as a proud display of school spirit. 2020 however has proven to be no ordinary year as school districts across the nation attempt to balance in-person education with the safety of both faculty and students amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Farm Bureau launches science fair

To help fifth-grade students explore agriculture and better understand the science involved in farming and ranching, Texas Farm Bureau is launching the Ag Inquiry Science Fair.

It is the first project of its kind for the state’s largest farm and ranch organization, but one TFB hopes cultivates agricultural literacy and awareness.

Let’s Talk About… Oakwood Cemetery

My parents are buried at Oakwood Cemetery, as are my grandparents. Like so many Hamilton residents who have loved ones interred at Oakwood, I care about its appearance.

By ordinance, the City of Hamilton “shall provide for the continuing care, maintenance, operation and improvements to the cemetery.” The City has been struggling this year to meet that standard of care.
