County waits for more vaccine

Hamilton County has depleted its supply of COVID-19 vaccine and is waiting for another allocation to continue vaccinating frontline medical workers and seniors.

Hospitals, pharmacies, health departments, emergency departments and clinics across the state continue to receive doses of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines and have been instructed to distribute all they are supplied.

Focused Care begins COVID vaccinations

Focused Care at Hamilton began COVID-19 vaccination clinics at its long-term care community.

The vaccination, provided by PharmScript, was to be administered to all residents and team members who elect to receive it. PharmScript administered the Pfizer vaccine, which received Emergency Use Authorization from the Food and Drug Administration on Dec. 11.

Focused Care at Hamilton is part of 31 Focused Post-Acute Care Partners longterm care communities to offer vaccine clinics in the coming days.

Let’s Talk About… Grandfather clauses

When a new law, ordinance or regulation is enacted, a “grandfather clause” is sometimes attached. A grandfather clause is a provision that exempts certain previously existing enterprises or activities from a new statute. This is done to reduce the economic impact on those affected by the new law, and to gain popularity for the passage of necessary legislation. However, with a goal of eventually achieving 100% compliance, most grandfather clauses are limited, either by time or by some event.

Cowboy poetry event adds virtual gatherings

Tickets are on sale for the Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering’s virtual events Jan. 22-31.

The Gathering is streaming an 81-minute film, Keeping the Tradition Alive, featuring poetry, musical performances and interviews with poet Joel Nelson and musicians Dale Burson, R.W. Hampton, Randy Huston and Rod Taylor.

Under the pretext of compensating him for the theft of his horses, Mexican soldiers lured a Rio Grande rancher to their side of the river on Jan. 12, 1914.

Forty miles north of Laredo and a stone’s throw from Hidalgo, Mexico, there once was a poor imitation of a town called Palofox. Clemente Vergara lived on the bluff above the border crossing and used a small island in the shallow Rio Grande as a natural corral for his horses.

COVID-19 continues to ravage county

2020 with its calamities may be over, but Hamilton County is nowhere clear of COVID-19.

Hamilton Healthcare System reported 18 new cases Tuesday afternoon with 119 total active cases in the county and eight hospitalized with the virus.

Since the pandemic began, 583 have tested positive in Hamilton and 16 have died.

“Community spread should be considered pervasive at this time,” said Hamilton County Health Authority Dr. Randy Lee. “Reported positives represent the tip of the iceberg in my opinion because not all symptomatic persons are seeking testing.

Dog trials Saturday at Circle T

Circle T Arena is hosting the Texas Sheep/ Cattle Dog Association Arena Timed Trials on Saturday.

Trials will begin in the upper arena at 8 a.m. and run throughout the day.

“I think this is the most fun thing to go to,” said organizer Bryan Huskey, who encourages spectators to come see what dog trials are about.

“There will be obstacles and sheep,” explains Huskey. “The dog takes the sheep around the obstacles and then pens the sheep. Each dog gets about five minutes to complete.”
