Moderna vaccine arrives

“The troops have arrived,” said Dr. Shalor Craig of the Hamilton Healthcare System. Craig compared the arrival of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine on Wednesday of last week as “Hamilton County’s D-Day.”

“The fight is far from over, but today hopefully marks the beginning of the end for this pandemic,” said Craig.

Hamilton County’s front-line medical professionals, including doctors, nurses and first responders, lined the hallway outside the hospital boardroom on Wednesday of last week, waiting to receive their first of two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

HGH reappoints staff, approves hazard pay

Hamilton County Hospital District board of directors on Dec 15 reappointed doctors to medical and allied health staff, accepted bids on pending tax deeds from September, approved loan documents and reviewed financial and QIPP quality reports.

The board also met Nov. 2 to consider financing for Llano County EMS and a HUD loan for Hill Country Nursing Home; and Nov. 30 to consider an employee hazardous environment pay supplement.

2020 ARE WE DONE WITH YOU YET?

It was a year fraught with fear and unexpected obstacles, but Hamilton survived the unforgettable year of 2020. Following are highlights of the first half:

January

Flu was widespread across the nation, with 37 states indicating high and increasing influenza-like illness activity. Dr. Randy Lee said this year’s flu outbreak has been worse than normal with mixed strains of Flu A and B.

Hank Williams: Lost Highway by Randal Myer and Hamilton’s Mark Harelik was featured at Waco Civic Theatre.

Modified youth fair to begin Tuesday

The Hamilton County Youth Livestock Show will go on but it will look different from years past.

In response to increased COVID cases in Hamilton County, Hamilton County Junior Livestock Association Board released a new alternative show schedule on Monday morning.

“We will do the very best we can do to keep things as normal as possible but follow CDC guidelines,” said HCJLA Secretary Faith Massingill.

I want to thank everyone for taking the time to help make the last two weeks a little easier. Thank you for the prayers, cards, flowers, food and calls. It looks like after I heal from surgery, I will be good to go again. I want to thank all our kids for their help during this unexpected illness and to Sam for always being strong for me!
