506 QUILTS!

506 QUILTS! The St. John Quilters made 506 quilts this year to donate to Lutheran World Relief. The record-breaking number of quilts were blessed on Sunday. Sunday’s visiting pastor Reverend Johannes Mengsteab commented during his sermon that as a child in the refugee camp in Ethiopia he remembered getting one of the quilts from LWR. The ladies belong to different congregations in the community. In the beginning the group met at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aleman but have been meeting on Tuesday mornings in the St. John Lutheran Family Life Center for about nine years.

Military, tip and prayers

Veterans Day is Wednesday, Nov. 11. Please let veterans that you know how thankful and proud we are of them. Thank them for their service and time for serving their Country.

We need to keep in mind our National Guard members that are called upon to serve one, two, three and more months for our country. They have to leave jobs, family and their way of life when called upon. So please remember to pray for our National Guard members as they serve their country and God bless them.

S’ville chosen for Main Street

The Texas Historical Commission has designated Stephenville as an incoming 2021 official Texas Main Street community. The announcement was made Oct. 28 at the THC’s virtual quarterly commission meeting.

Effective Jan. 1, Stephenville joins 87 other designated Main Street communities throughout Texas committed to a preservation-based economic development program focused on their historic downtowns.

One winter night in 1952, Paul Crume came home from work and announced to his wife Marion, “They’ve asked me to start writing a new column.” “They” were his bosses at the Dallas newspaper, where he had worked for the past 16 years.
