Hamilton General Hospital is spreading hope and cheer this Christmas season with its traditional Christmas tree, left, in the hospital lobby, decorated by the Hamilton General Hospital Auxiliary Team. COVID claims 2 more

Hamilton County had nine new cases of COVID-19 on Monday and five new cases on Tuesday, according to Hamilton General Hospital.

The pandemic has claimed 10 lives since it began, with one being in the 60-69 age group, four 70-79 and six 80 and older.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in March, 372 Hamilton County residents have tested positive, and as of Tuesday, there were 54 active cases in the county.

Hamilton County Health Authority Dr. Randy Lee said it’s not going to get better.

THE SHOW MUST GO ON!

THE SHOW MUST GO ON! Despite COVID-19, Ann Whitney Elementary students have spent the past six weeks learning songs and decorating the music room for the “2020 Holiday Songs” music program. Each class choreographed and filmed its own song on the Fridays they were in music class. The combined musical will be available on the AWE page of the school’s website and on Facebook Dec. 17, and students will watch it in homeroom Dec. 18.

HJH hosting food drive

Entering the holiday season, Hamilton’s United Care is in desperate need of canned foods and other non-perishable boxed goods such as macaroni and cheese, cereal, granola bars and more. Aiming to help curb food insecurity while providing Hamilton families with a boost over the holidays, Hamilton Junior High students are heeding the call for help by hosting a food drive this week.

Longtime manager retiring from HGH

They call her Miss Wow Terrific - Miss Wow for short - and for good reason.

Hamilton Healthcare System’s administration department runs smoothly because of her.

She doesn’t wear a cape, but anyone who needs anything at Hamilton General Hospital knows to look for Diane Schneider.

She worked in the corporate world for GTE – now Verizon – for more than 20 years and has been at the hospital for 16, but now it’s time to slow down and enjoy life.

Diane will retire Dec. 31.

Jonesboro sailor supports shipyard surge

A 2001 Jonesboro Independent School District graduate and native of Jonesboro is serving at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility as part of the largest mobilization of reservists in Naval Sea Systems Command history. The mobilization is tied directly to the COVID-19 pandemic.
