An old Greek proverb has it that “A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”

We Hamiltonians have always invested in this idea. We sacrifice immediate wants and needs to see that our children are cared for and educated so that we send productive citizens back into our community and the world. We agree to fund institutions such as an outstanding local hospital so that everyone in the community can have decent, available health care, today and in the future.

EDC looks toward new year of growth

Spring is a time of growth, renewal and change.

Hamilton Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) is experiencing change while looking forward to a new year of growth and development.

Change begins with the search for a new Executive Director. Sarah Bauman, who has led the organization since May 2016, is pursuing a new career opportunity.

“The EDC Board is indebted to Sarah for her instrumental service and leadership,” said HEDC Board President Dr. Randy Lee. “We wish her well in her future endeavors.”

Storms containing small hail, tornadoes and much needed rain blew through the area last Wednesday.

Area rainfall reports ranged from .8 to 2.7 inches.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Spring Outlook released in March, approximately half of the country is experiencing drought conditions which are expected to continue through the spring due to La Nina. Drier-than-normal conditions and warmer than average temperatures are forecasted for Hamilton County through June.

LEARNING THE RULES- Payson Clowdus finds first base with the help of coach Trey Lewelling Monday night as 2021 T-ball action gets under way at Pecan Creek Park. Payson is the son of Kelsi and Zac Clowdus and grandson of Rodney and Katrina Craddick of Hamilton and Betty Clowdus of Burleson and the late Laurence Clowdus. Payson is 4, and this is his first year to play T-ball. He said it is so much fun, he loves it and he is so excited to play.

Free movie Friday at Pecan Creek Park

Get your popcorn ready!! This Friday, April 2, at 8 p.m., the Hamilton Civic Theatre invites everyone to Movie Night in the Park, weather/wind permitting.

The Hamilton Civic Theatre and the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce will be dedicating the first movie night to Texas New Mexico Power in honor of the Power Grant the HCT was presented in 2020.

“The Croods: A New Age” will be showing in Pecan Creek Park Rock Amphitheater across the bridge from the youth soccer field.

Vaccine available for all who want it

Anyone older than 16 can get a COVID-19 vaccination by calling their healthcare provider for an appointment.

“Local vaccine supply is good now,” said Hamilton County Health Authority Dr. Randy Lee.

“Anyone who wishes COVID vaccination can now request and be scheduled. If you have completed the COVID vaccination series, quarantine is not required for subsequent exposures to known positives.”

Dr. Lee said those making summer travel plans should also prepare by getting the vaccination.

Nursing home, COVID top hospital audit

Funds from nursing home and COVID relief programs culminated for a positive bottom line on Hamilton Healthcare System’s 2020 financial year.

Deborah Whitley of BKD CPAs and Advisors presented the annual audit report for 2020 to the Hamilton County Hospital District’s Board of Directors last Wednesday.

Highlights to the audit showed an increase in cash, net position, operating income and nursing facility revenue and a decrease in net nonoperating revenues.

“This is the result of a tremendous positive impact from the nursing home QIPP program,” said Whitley.

Egg-citing Easter activities abound

Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department is not hosting its annual Easter egg hunt in the park; however, Easter celebrations abound in Hamilton this weekend.

Hamilton Dairy Queen is having a city-wide Easter egg hunt. Each day from Tuesday through Friday, 25 new eggs will be hidden around town. One prize egg entitles the finder to a small blizzard for a year. Clues are available on Facebook @DQ14189.

On Friday, Hamilton Healthcare Center on E. Pierson is hosting an Egg-citing Easter Extravaganza from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Freeman announces

Hi! I am Diana Freeman, and I am running for Hamilton ISD Board of Trustees.

I have lived in Hamilton for 18 years and have loved sharing my hometown with people across the state. I was a board member here once before and went through the yearlong leadership academy through the Texas Association of School Boards, graduating that program as a Master Trustee.

After that, I went to work for the school board association training school boards and have worked in that field now for 12 years.
