HCJLA to city: No deal

Hamilton County Junior Livestock Association last Thursday rejected the City of Hamilton’s lease agreement for Fair Park and asked to meet with representatives of the board to discuss a resolution.

The council also heard a report and request from the Community Foundation of Hamilton regarding a community center; approved the second reading of a water rate ordinance; and approved purchase of the last of the equipment needed for street repairs and the 20-year roadway maintenance and improvement plan.

HISD plans alternative for ACE

Hamilton Independent School District learned last week that the district will not receive Cycle 10 grant funds for the Afterschool Centers on Education program, but Superintendent Clay Tarpley said parents shouldn’t panic.

There will be a comparable program for the next school year.

“While we are disappointed the ACE grant was not approved for the next cycle, we are looking at ways to continue an afterschool program,” Tarpley said. “There are ESSER funds available in lieu of the grant to allow us to offer tutoring and enrichment activities for the upcoming year.”

Community center opens 9/1 on square

Hamilton Community Center will have a community-wide spaghetti lunch Sept. 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Conference Center, 110 E. Main, on the south side of the square

On that day, the center will replace the Hamilton Senior Center and be available to all who would like a place to meet friends and enjoy activities together. Activities will include weekday lunches as well as Meals on Wheels services.

Visitors can enter from the front or back doors, which are wheelchair accessible.

COVID rising: Has Delta landed?

Hamilton COVID-19 cases continue to rise, and many want to blame it on the new Delta variant.

But Hamilton County Health Authority Dr. Randy Lee said he does not know what strain of the virus is causing continued active cases. The key to avoiding contracting the virus continues to be vaccination.

Hamilton County 4-H will have a Fun Day July 27 at 5 p.m. at Hamilton City Pool. Youth are invited to learn about wildlife and enjoy a swim day. Hot dogs will be served.
