GREAT SHOT - Just two days after her 12th birthday, Haley Hopper receives her first COVID vaccine at Hamilton ISD’s drive-thru COVID vaccination clinic Saturday. School nurse Shannan Roberts administers the vaccine. HISD will again team up with Hamilton Healthcare System Oct. 9 to offer vaccines for anyone 12 and older. Last month, FDA approved Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 for those 16 years and older, and the vaccine is now available under emergency use authorization for youth 12 through 15.

HHN welcomes new team member

Hamilton Herald-News welcomes award-winning journalist Wyndi Veigel to its staff as the paper’s News Editor.

Most recently, Veigel was the editor of the Marshall News Messenger, a six-day-a-week daily paper in East Texas.

“We are so very excited to welcome Wyndi to our HHN family, and we look forward to introducing her to our loving community,” said HHN Publisher Grant Lengefeld.

Veigel also worked for more than 13 years for a group of weekly papers in the DFW area including Farmersville, Princeton, Wylie, Sachse and Murphy.

Gesick to lead chamber

A new face can be seen in the community as Jenn Gesick prepares to lead the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce.

As the newly hired Executive Director for the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, Gesick said she is excited to be in town and loves the small-town feel the community provides.

Growing up in Lorena, the new community member is familiar with small towns. Attending Texas State University, she met her husband Patrick Gesick. They began their life of a 20-year military career in the U.S. Air Force, eventually landing in Jonesboro.

HOMECOMING QUEEN- Hamilton High School senior Emma Griffin was crowned the 2021 Homecoming Queen at Friday night’s ballgame at Kooken Field. Griffin is the daughter of Jeff and Kristy Murray. 

Center opens Oct. 1

Hamilton Community Center will have its fund-raiser spaghetti lunch soft opening Oct. 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The center, located in the Conference Center on the south side of the square, will provide lunch, activities and fellowship primarily for Hamilton’s senior adults.

The lunch, which was previously postponed because of COVID, will be dine-in and to-go and on a donation basis. Volunteers will be in front of the center and in the alleyway behind so those who do not wish to come inside will not have to leave their cars.
