Hospital workers face federal vaccine mandate

Hamilton Healthcare System employees have until Dec. 6 to get their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine after a federal mandate was handed down by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) earlier this month.

“We are not mandating anything; CMS is,” HHS Chief Executive Officer Grady Hooper said Monday.

Homicide arrest made in missing person case

A murder charge has been filed in an ongoing missing person case involving Carl Woolsey, 72, of Comanche, formerly of Carlton.

In early September, the Comanche Police Department was contacted by Sheila Woolsey Taylor, the daughter of Carl.

Taylor was estranged from her dad and they had not been in contact for more than a year, she said.

In the early stages of the missing persons investigation, it appeared that he had been the victim of foul play, according to the Comanche Police Department.

Hamilton Community Center will be open every day this week, including Thanksgiving Day.

Turkey, ham and all the trimmings will be served free Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. and lasting until 2 p.m. or the food is gone.

Special entertainment will be by pianist Ray Palousek.

The center is located in the middle of the south side of the square.

What began Oct. 1 with 12 home-delivered meals and about half a dozen in-person diners has grown to more than 50 guests served each day.

A season for thanks and giving

Applications for Billingslea Wilson Goodfellow Christmas gifts are available at Hamilton Herald-News, Lee Health Care, CCS Medical Equipment and MC Bank and are due back to those entities by Dec. 6.

The Goodfellows rely on monetary and toy donations to continue providing for Hamilton families.

Last year, the organization made Christmas brighter for 88 families with 160 children. Each family receives a box of food and toys as well as vouchers for the children to receive coats and shoes.
