HHS Track sends 9 to state; Dogs back-to-back regional champions

Hamilton High School is sending nine representatives to the 2022 Texas UIL 2A State Track and Field Championships to be held at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of University of Texas in Austin on Friday, May 13.

STATE BOUND GOLFERS - The 2022 Bulldog golf team, coached by O.J. Kemp and Maury Heers and led by senior duo Tyner Haile and Mason Guinn, will be leaving on a bus from Hamilton High School this Sunday at 11 a.m. for the Texas UIL 2A State Golf Championships. The Bulldogs will tee off at the state tournament to be held at the Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Following up on a District 12-2A title grab, Hamilton’s state bound golf squad, including Haile, Guinn, Garrett Guinn, Darby Craig and Davin Crouch, placed third out of the region’s top 16 teams at the 2A Region II Golf Tournament held April 18-19 at the Old Brickyard Golf Course in Ferris. Last season, the Bulldogs placed sixth overall at the state tournament. Four of Hamilton’s 2021 state competitors are returning to represent the Dogs in Austin this year with Hamilton’s newest addition, freshman standout Garrett Guinn, filling the shoes of 2021 graduate Denver Poe. PLAYOFFS - Following a forfeit by Covington on Tuesday of last week, the Lady Bulldog softball team finished the regular season with a 10-7 record. At 8-6 in district, the Lady Dogs placed third overall in the final District 12-2A standings behind district leader Hico and runner-up Rio Vista. The Lady Bulldogs are scheduled to face Lipan in the bi-district round of the playoffs this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Godley. 20 HHS athletes on track for regionals

For the second consecutive year, the Lady Bulldogs claimed an area track championship on Wednesday of last week in Tolar, besting a field of 14 teams. The Bulldogs placed second in the area-round competition behind only Tolar.

Bulldog golf scores state invite

The Hamilton Bulldog golf team is again headed to state after placing third out of the region’s top 16 teams last week at the Old Brickyard Golf Course in Ferris. Led by seniors Mason Guinn and Tyner Haile, the Dogs entered day two of the tournament on Tuesday of last week four strokes out of state contention, sitting in fourth position tied with Hico and behind Lindsay, Albany and Valley Mills in consecutive order.
