Hamilton High School student-athletes once again ran roughshod over the competition last week during the District 12-2A Track a n d Field Championships in Meridian. Hamilton claimed district championships in the varsity girls, varsity boys and the junior varsity boys divisions, and the JV Lady Bulldogs were district runners-up behind only Rio Vista.

SENIOR DAY - Graduating seniors Skylar Carr and Dezlyn Lamb were recognized along with family prior to Hamilton’s final regular season home softball game versus Hico last Friday. The Lady Dogs fell to the district-leading Hico Lady Tigers and remain in third place behind second-placed Rio Vista in District 12-2A with a 7-6 record. The playoff bound Lady Bulldogs were set to wrap up their district schedule on Tuesday in Covington. District standings across the state will be certified on Tuesday of next week, and all bi-district playoff games will be played on or before Saturday, April 30. REGIONAL BUSSIN’

REGIONAL BUSSIN’ - The awesome Bulldog and Lady Bulldog golf teams bussed to the Region II-2A Golf Championships in Ferris on Easter Sunday and tee’d off for the first round of regional competition on Monday of this week. The top three teams and top three individual finishers not on an advancing team will advance to compete at state in May. After round one on Monday, the Bulldogs were just two strokes out of state contention and were sitting tied with Hico in the fourth seat with a team score of 337. Lindsay was on top with a 309, trailed by Albany’s 325 and Valley Mills with a team tally of 335. Trailing Hamilton and Hico were Seymour (340), Cooper (349), Hawley (358), Olney (367), Chico (371), Celeste (375), Tolar (382), Honey Grove (385), Alba-Golden (397), Linden-Kildare (415) and Rivercrest (433). Mason Guinn paced the Dogs with an 80, followed by Tyner Haile with an 81, Garrett Guinn 84, Darby Craig 92 and Davin Crouch 99. Guinn and Haile were sitting in 14th and 17th position entering the final day of competition on Tuesday. A pair of Hico Tigers were leading the pack after day one. Reese Polk was perched atop the standings with a 72 on the first 18 holes, and Justin Giessner sat in second with a round of 74. The Lady Bulldogs posted a team best score of 443 on Monday and finished the day in eighth place behind Muenster (388), Quanah (397), Lindsay (418), Quinlan Boles (424), Bland (431), Wolfe City (437) and Olney (439). Trailing the Lady Dogs were Tolar (450), DeLeon (465), Hawley (466), Linden-Kildare (467), Cooper (469), Rio Vista (477) and Rivercrest (506). Campbell Lengefeld shot a team leading 104, followed by Grace Carson 105, Fernanda Olalde 116, Braylee Wilson 118 and Karah Niemann with a 121. Lengefeld and Carson resided in the 17th and 18th spots individually heading into day two of the regional tournament.

HAIL TO TENNIS

HAIL TO TENNIS - In addition to facing the region’s top 2A tennis talent in Richland Hills, Hamilton’s regional qualifiers, including Morgan Aing, John Polster and Joseph Polster, also withstood torrential downpours of water and ice and were forced to sweep hail from the courts in between matches during the 2A Region II Tennis Championships last week. Doubles partners, district champions and brothers, John and Joseph Polster, handily defeated a duo from McLeod in two sets (6-1, 6-2) before dropping a three set quarterfinal match to Albany by scores of 6-4, 4-6 and 6-3. Hamilton’s district singles champion, Morgan Aing, also dominated her opening round match, defeating a player from Archer City in two sets (6-1, 6-2). Like the Polsters, Aing was removed from state contention in the round of eight, falling in a pair of competitive sets to a player representing Sam Rayburn High School by scores of 7-5 and 7-5. The Polsters and Aing were joined at the regional tournament by Head Coach Miles Sellers and teammate Presley Sliger. Sliger placed third in singles in district competition and traveled to Richland Hills as the district’s regional singles alternate. With just two district games remaining, the Lady Bulldogs currently sit in third place with a 7-5 district record behind first-placed Hico and secondplaced Rio Vista with Itasca and Meridian battling it out for the fourth and final District 12-2A playoff seat.
