OTTER-LY FUN - HHN reader Shawna Johnson snapped this rare sighting of a Texas River Otter at Pecan Creek Park last Wednesday. “You don’t generally see them in Hamilton County. They are usually more east,” said Game Warden Jim Daniels, adding that Hamilton is in the most western side of the otter’s habitat. According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, otters wander a great deal through their habitats. Because of this, they are scarce in most localities. They are usually shy, inconspicuous creatures that are rarely seen even though they are active throughout the year.
