Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary encourages members

The members of the Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary met Monday, June 10, at 11:45 a.m. in the board room at the Hamilton General Hospital. A light lunch was served.

The group is reorganizing and considering several changes, including the schedule and time of meetings, adopted projects and an organization name change.

Twelve Texans flew on Doolittle raid

All available participants in the recent “Doolittle Raid” on Japan, including half of the dozen native Texans, were honored at the White House on Jun. 25, 1941.

Nothing better describes American morale in the weeks after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor than that old West Texas saying “lower than a snake’s belly.” No one was more acutely aware of that fact than President Franklin Roosevelt, who insisted immediate retaliatory action be taken.

Donation requests

Support growing for commandments at courthouse

About a dozen county residents attended the Hamilton County Commissioners Court meeting Tuesday morning to express their support of placing monuments of the Ten Commandments on the east and west sides of the courthouse.

Johnny Clepper addressed the commissioners at last week’s meeting and offered to raise funds to have the monuments made with permission of the court.

Teresa Clepper, Vicky Beard, Danny Craig, Billy Hollingsworth, Don Barnett, Bob Self and Cody Ashmore addressed the court during public comments to express support for the project.

FSA committee nominations open

WASHINGTON – USDA’s Farm Service Agency will begin accepting nominations for county committee members on Friday, June 14. Agricultural producers who participate or cooperate in an FSA program may be nominated for candidacy for the county committee. Individuals may nominate themselves or others as a candidate.

TSSWCB gets funds for flood control

TEMPLE – Projects to repair and rehabilitate flood control structures across Texas will now be funded thanks to a $150 million appropriations bill legislators passed this session. The Governor signed the bill into law on June 6.

These structures serve as a critical protection for our state’s infrastructure, private property, and lives. The State appropriated the funds to the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board to administer through grants to the local sponsors of Flood Control Dams, including Soil and Water Conservation Districts.

Stars of Texas Jamboree this Friday

The Stars Over Texas Jamboree, Waco’s own family-friendly music stage show, will be in Gatesville this Friday at the Gatesville City Auditorium. Doors open at 6 p.m. with an invitational local young talent search at 6:30. Show starts at 7.

The Stars Over Texas Jamboree began in Waco in September 2010 and just completed its 106th monthly performance. Monthly shows alternate between country, oldies and gospel music.
