Graduation parade to fete Class of ’20

Hamilton High School’s Class of 2020 will likely go down in history as the class that didn’t get a prom, band concert, baseball and track season.

The COVID-19 pandemic also made it the winner of “senior skip day” for having not been in an actual classroom since spring break.

With all those “losses,” the class of 2020 will be the first to be sent off with a grand parade.

WE MISS YOU- Hamilton elementary and junior high administrators and teachers welcomed the chance to see their students Friday after COVID-19 closed the schools. They packed up student lockers and met them outside to return their school items and say goodbye for the 2019-20 school term. 

Dr. Lee: Wear your mask!

While Phase 1 of reopening Texas is under way, Hamilton County health officer and Hamilton General Hospital Chief of Staff Dr. Randy Lee says now is not the time to get lax in our caution.

“Wear your masks when out and about!” he stressed.

Hamilton County remains at five in reported positive COVID-19 cases, but that’s no reason to let our guard down, he said.

“I remain concerned about relaxation of precautions and laxity of compliance as we phase reopen,” he said. “When we let our guard down is when we will get sucker-punched as a community by this virus.

Housing authority gets CARES grant

Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25) announced a $8575 grant awarded to the Housing Authority of Hamilton by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The funding, made available by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, will be awarded to Public Housing Authorities nationwide through the Public Housing Operating Fund and can be used to prepare, prevent or respond to a coronavirus outbreak.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced approval of requests from Texas, Kentucky and Missouri to provide online purchasing of food to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program households.
