Team “Sommerfeld, Some Are Not”, led by Brandon Sommerfeld won the 10th Anniversary Bacon Bash Texas Cook Off! The team donated their $4,000 first place winnings back to Bacon Bash Texas charities! Brandon and his team have been the only team to compete at every Bacon Bash event since 2012.

 

Drama garage sale to be held Friday

The most dramatic sidewalk sale ever will be held this Friday to benefit the Hamilton Junior High and Hamilton High School Drama and Art Club.

The sale will be held from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 22 on the lawn next to the Chandler Craig Auditorium.

Furniture, antiques, collectibles, clothing, shoes, home decor, costumes, baby items, toys, games, books, technology and gaming equipment and much more will be available. No early birds are allowed, and the sale opens at exactly 4:30 p.m. Customers are encouraged to bring their own bag or box and pay what they wish on most items.

Hay bale winners announced

Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department is the big winner of the American Legion Cunningham Post 222 hay bale decorating contest.

Judged by Girl Scout Troop 4332, the contest had 93 entries, and proceeds benefit the Legion’s fundraising drive for a war memorial to be placed at the Hamilton County Historical Museum.

Coming in second was Lawson Implement’s bales depicting Iwo Jima, and third was a humorous entry by the Hamilton Junior High and Hamilton High School drama and art departments. The drama departments was themed after Shrek.

There are 11 million reasons to celebrate National Women in Business month this October.

There are 11 million women-owned businesses in the United States and many in Hamilton. Women are gaining positions in major industries, and the banking industry is no exception.

In Hamilton, all three banks have women in leadership roles including Vice President and Senior Loan Officer Mandy Blackwell at MCBank, Bank Officer Commercial Banker Mary Owen at Extraco and Community Bank President/ Hamilton Branch Paula Christian at BancorpSouth.

Council talks trash

“We are very embarrassed how our service has been in this city,” Waste Connection District Manager Jimmy Esperanza said at Thursday night’s city council meeting.

At the request of council, the district manager was present to discuss ongoing issues the waste company is having in the city of Hamilton.

Esperanza said downed trucks and missing parts were contributing to the issues.

“We’ve had several trucks down for months at a time, and we can’t fix them without the parts,” he said. “I’m not here to make excuses though. We are going to get it fixed.”

Early voting continues; Election Day Nov. 2

Early voting for the November Constitutional Amendment election is continuing and voters can cast their ballot on eight state-wide propositions.

Prop. 1 is an amendment authorizing “the professional sports team charitable foundations of organizations sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association or the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association to conduct raffles at rodeo venues.”
