Main Street welcomes First Lady

Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott will be in Hamilton Tuesday to celebrate Hamilton’s entrance into the statewide Main Street program. “The First Lady is coming to help celebrate us being a historical Main Street City,” said Main Street Manager Kayla Schraub. “It is a really big honor for her to visit us, and we are extremely excited.” Since 1981, every Texas First Lady has participated in the First Lady’s Main Street Tour, an event that features a public ceremony with her remarks and a reception to celebrate the community’s entrance into the statewide program.

City still working on water issues

Hamilton’s water problems are remedied for the time being after a weeklong boil water notice caused panic throughout the city. Bottled water disappeared from store shelves, and the county provided a potable water tank for residents behind the courthouse annex. Public Works Utility Director Jeffrey Donahoo told the city council at last week’s meeting that he called in experts from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to determine the best course of action in bringing up chlorine levels to ensure the water’s purity.

DRT celebrates Gonzales Day

Oct. 2 is Gonzales Day, which marks the Battle of Gonzales and the beginning of the Texas Revolution.

It is one of 12 Texas Honor Days designated by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas to commemorate important events and people in Texas history. Significant are the pioneers who fought in the Battle of Gonzales, which took place Oct. 2, 1835.
