The Hamilton Lady Bulldogs stuffed their stockings over the holidays with a runner-up trophy in the Irion County Billy Barnett Holiday Hoops Classic. On Wednesday of last week, the Lady Dogs bounced Mason 37-33 and Faith Academy Marble Falls 6316. Returning to Mertzon on Thursday for day two of the tournament, the Lady Bulldogs captured a 40-34 victory over Roscoe Highland and fell to host Irion County 40-34. After battering Harper Friday morning 38-30, the Lady Dogs again faced Irion County in the championship game and were narrowly defeated 38-37 to place second in the three-day tournament. Hamilton’s hoop squad returned to the court on Monday of this week to face the number one ranked team in all of 4A on the road in Glen Rose. The now 26-1 Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Bulldogs 73-28. Hamilton’s junior varsity and varsity Lady Bulldogs are scheduled to tip off District 12-2A competition this Friday in Hamilton. The JV Lady Dogs will host Itasca at 5 p.m. followed by the 13-9 varsity Lady Bulldogs at 6:15. On Tuesday of next week, the Lady Dogs will host district foe Rio Vista with the JV set to play at 5 p.m., again trailed by the varsity matchup at 6:15.
