Hamilton’s gridiron squads will finally face opposing colors as they travel to Comanche this Thursday for their first and only scrimmage of the season. Action in Comanche will kick-off at 6 pm. Hamilton ISD was issued a total of 360 tickets for the event. At $1 apiece, the tickets were to go on sale between 5:30 and 7 pm on Wednesday at the Hamilton ISD ticket office located at 604 S. Pecan Street behind Kooken Field.

The Lady Bulldogs hosted Dublin last Tuesday for their first home volleyball matches of the season and swept the visiting Lady Lions in seven games. The JV Red dropped Dublin 25-4 and 25-10; JV Black followed with a 25-4, 25-8 victory; and varsity earned a come-from-behind 25-17 victory in the first game before cruising 25-15 and 25-22. The Hamilton ISD Athletic Booster Club had another successful year for the 2019- 2020 school year.

During that time, the club hosted the Mona Gloff Invitational Cross Country Meet, Lady Bulldogs Volleyball Tournament, Lady Bulldogs Girls Basketball Tournament, Ted Jones Memorial Basketball Tournament, JH Boys Basketball Tournament, Bulldog Powerlifting Meet & the Louis Lowe Invitational Baseball Tournament. All of these events were a huge success!

The Hamilton Bulldogs strapped on the pads for the first time Saturday for an inter-squad scrimmage. Varsity and JV teams will face opposing colors Aug. 20 in Comanche. Head coach Casey Jones said, “We will release information later this week regarding attendance requirements for fans looking to travel to Comanche. Practice is going well, and our guys are excited and ready to face an opposing team.” Junior high players will report to the John D. Hall Field House at 8 a.m. Thursday. MOE basketball wraps up season

For 17 years, Oscar Zepeda of San Saba has been developing basketball players from San Saba and surrounding areas through the MOE basketball program. MOE is an acronym for “Matter of Effort”.

Football schedule returns to normal

As a result of community pressure and an announcement from the Texas Education Agency stating school districts that did not begin on time would lose funding, McLennan County rescinded an order last week allowing schools within their county to open their doors in August rather than having a delayed September start date.

FALL BALL-According to head football coach and athletic director Casey Jones, 50 young men reported for the first day of football practice Monday with a couple more expected over the next couple of weeks. The Bulldogs will have just one scrimmage in Comanche beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, before the regular season begins.

As questions linger over both if and when high school football might kick off this fall in the wake of COVID-19 uncertainty, a staple of normalcy found its way to the magazine stands last week. In all of his 95 years of collective wisdom and 61 years of producing the most exhaustive and cumulative reporting on every high school, college and NFL football program in the state, Dave Campbell’s annual Texas Football Magazine has arrived.

JHS athlete makes ASU honor roll

SAN ANGELO-More than 175 Angelo State University student-athletes, including Keegan Coble of Jonesboro, have been named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2020 spring semester.

The Commissioner’s Honor Roll is announced at the conclusion of each fall and spring semester with student-athletes qualifying based on grade point average for the current semester. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.30 GPA and be on their team’s active roster. Sixty-four ASU student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA for the 2020 spring semester.
