TRAILBLAZERS: Hamilton’s Bulldog cross-country runners dominated the competition in traversing a three-mile muddy course in Keene on Wednesday of last week. The Bulldogs posted a team-winning 20 points, outpacing second-placed Hillsboro by 23. Godley claimed third with a team tally of 96 and were trailed by Itasca with 103 and Covington 122. Six of the top eight finishers in Keene were from Hamilton, including a second-placed performance by Caleb Lengefeld.

Hamilton Lady Bulldog volleyball was scheduled to begin district competition on Tuesday in Meridian. Matches versus Evant on Friday have been postponed, and the Lady Dogs will host Three Way next Tuesday at 6 pm. Varsity only will play on Tuesday of next week. The Lady Bulldogs have faced a competitive field of three 4A teams in the past two weeks. On Tuesday of last week, Hamilton’s three squads swept Waco Connally. The varsity Lady Dogs defeated Connally in four sets by scores of 25-17, 19-25, 25-12 and 25-8. Both the JV Black and JV Red made quick work of Connally in two sets apiece.

2020 LADY BULLDOGS: With matches scheduled on Tuesday of this week in Connally and final pre-district matches this Friday at Lake Belton, the Hamilton Lady Bulldog vol-leyball squads will open district in Meridian with a JV match scheduled for 5 pm and the varsity at 6 pm next Tuesday. In Lake Belton on Friday, var-sity will play at 4:30 pm fol-lowed by JV matches at 5:30 and 6:30. Hamilton's varsity Lady Bulldogs moved to 4-5 last week after dropping a four-game decision in Llano before outlasting 4A Venus in four sets on the road. The Lady Dogs fell at home last Saturday to Chil-ton in five competitive games. SOUND TACKLING:Keegan Votaw makes a tackle in the open field during Hamilton’s only football scrimmage of the season last Thursday in Comanche. The newly aligned 2A Bulldogs held the 3A powerhouse Indians to just two scores to Hamilton’s one during the scrimmage. Though Hamilton’s junior varsity failed to find the end zone, the young Bulldog defense also surrendered just two touchdowns to the Indians. The JV Bulldogs will kick-off the 2020 season this Thursday in Moody with gametime set for 5:30 pm.

CLEAN SWEEP:For the third time this season, Hamilton’s varsity and two junior varsity volleyball squads perfected a three-match sweep over their opponent when they defeated Comanche on the road on Tuesday of last week. The varsity Lady Dogs claimed victory in three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-14. The JV Black won 25-21, 25-23, and the JV Red trounced the Maidens 25-9, 25-18.

Strike up the band. Football is here and the Friday night lights will be shining bright at Kooken Field this Friday as the Bulldogs usher in the much anticipated 2020 season versus the visiting Moody Bearcats at 7 p.m.

The opening act kicks off Thursday evening as the junior varsity Dogs travel to Moody, hoping to give the Bearcats the blues beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Long before the sun rises, Hamilton’s cross-country runners are hitting the trails in pursuit of another state title. Hamilton has claimed six cross-country state championships in all and has become a mainstay at the annual Texas UIL state meet. Hamilton’s Lady Bulldogs last claimed state gold in 2015 under the direction of current head coach Brandun Massingill. That title was bookended by state runner-up finishes in both 2014 and 2016, and the Lady Dogs were again state qualifiers in 2017.
