Silver Taps to honor deceased TSU alums

Tarleton State University will observe Silver Taps at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 15, to honor members of the university family — alumni, faculty, staff and friends — who passed away during the previous year.

Part of Tarleton Founder’s Week, this year’s ceremony takes place at Alumni Island in the heart of the Stephenville campus at the plaza surrounding the John Tarleton statue. The public is invited.

The ceremony’s location provides an opportunity to end Founder’s Week in a setting that connects every member of the Tarleton family with the university’s founder.

Bulldogs stump toe vs. Miles

Hamilton’s hardball Bulldogs were held to just one run on Tuesday of last week as they surprisingly fell to the visiting Miles Bulldogs in a low scoring 2-1 affair.

Hamilton’s Dogs had trounced Miles the previous Friday on the road 16 runs to two.

A sacrifice bunt laid down by Luis Najera led to Caleb Lengefeld crossing home plate for Hamilton’s only score of the ballgame in the bottom of the second.

Miles responded late, posting two runs in the top of the sixth.

John Deere Day Saturday

A beautiful day is forecasted for the 81 st Annual John Deere Day this Saturday, April 3 from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lawson Implement in Hamilton.

“Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the Hard Luck Band from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and sausage wraps will be served at noon,” said owner Billy Lawson.

“We will have kids activities including a bounce house, train rides, a corn box and petting zoo.”

St John Lutheran youth will have their annual plant sale. Proceeds will support St. John Lutheran Senior Youth to the National Youth Gathering.

Scouts conduct Order of Arrow

Troop 311 met to perform an Order of the Arrow election Monday.

For more than 100 years, the Order of the Arrow has recognized Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. This recognition provides encouragement for others to live these ideals as well.

Arrowmen are known for maintaining camping traditions and spirit, promoting year-round and long-term resident camping, and providing cheerful service to others.

Dogs pick up crucial wins

The Hamilton Bulldogs picked up a pair of crucial district wins last week.Colby Bailey and Chase Weaver combined for a no hitter through six and twothird innings versus Winters on Tuesday, and the Dogs held off a late push by the Blizzards to claim their first district win by a score of 9-7.
