I was sitting in Tim Edins’ HTML formatting class my senior year of high school when we got the news.

Stupid me thought oh, that’s light years away from me and it doesn’t affect me. I didn’t understand as a kid why it did.

When I realized the impact that the twin towers falling would have, I was kind of numb to the emotion. Mom and I wrote a song. We had a special assembly at school at which I sang a depressing rendition of Sarah McLaughlan’s “I Will Remember You,” and I knew it was a big deal, but I was really more wrapped up in my own life.

Granbury Theatre Company will continue its 2018 Broadway on the Brazos season with the play You Can’t Take It With You Sept. 21 through Oct. 7, at the historic Granbury Opera House in Downtown Granbury.

Hamilton High School student Jack Snyder has been cast in one of the lead roles as Tony Kirby.

Wheat acres could rise

COLLEGE STATION – Texas wheat producers may increase planted acres slightly as the forecast for moisture through winter and market trends improve outlook, according to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service experts.

Dr. Clark Neely, AgriLife Extension small grains and oilseed specialist, College Station, said he anticipates a “bump” in statewide wheat acres this season. Texas wheat acres have been exceptionally low, around 4.5 million acres, he said. But they could settle between 4.7 million to 5 million acres based on recent price trends.

Bulldog Sweep Saturday

Volunteers of all ages are invited to join Keep Hamilton Beautiful in partnership with Hamilton Independent School District for Bulldog Sweep this Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m.

The workers will spruce up the area around Kooken Field, Railroad Street and Shadler Meadow just in time for homecoming.

Volunteers are needed to pick up litter, trim trees and pull weeds. Trash bags and gloves will be provided, and volunteers are asked to bring hoes, rakes and tree trimming tools if possible.

Antique tractor show returns for 28th year

Hamilton’s 28th annual Antique Tractor and Farm Machinery Show is this Saturday at Fair Park.

Registration for tractors will begin at 8 a.m., and the pull will begin at about 10.

There will be a tractor parade on the grounds at 1 p.m., and the pull will end at 5 p.m. or when all tractors have pulled.

Food vendors will be selling hamburgers, sausage wraps, snow cones, Blue Bell ice cream, cold drinks and bottled water.

Tickets will be sold for a garden wagon drawing. Tickets are $1 each or sic for $5.

Secretary of State: Register by Oct. 9

AUSTIN – Texas Secretary of State Rolando Pablos re-minds eligible Texans to register to vote by Oct. 9 and to make necessary preparations to be able to cast a ballot in the up-coming Nov. 6 General Elec-tion.

Secretary Pablos encour-aged all eligible Texas voters to ensure that they:

(1) are registered to vote in their county of residence

(2) are aware of what they need to bring to the polls in order to cast a ballot.
