Evant pre-k

Evant ISD is accepting Pre-K and kindergarten enrollment for the 2022-23 school year. Pre-K students must be 4 and kindergarten 5 by Sept. 1. Enrollment packets can be picked up at the front office Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call the school at 254-471-5536 for more information.

Kids aren’t reading for fun anymore. A survey of American 9- and 13-year-olds conducted in early 2020 by the National Assessment of Educational Progress reported that the number of kids who say they read for fun on a daily basis has dropped from a decade ago to the lowest levels since the mid-1980s.

Council gets good audit

Hamilton City Council last Thursday received its 2020-21 annual financial audit, held a public hearing regarding cleanup alternatives on Grogan Street and Rice Street, denied a release lien on 401 N. Reagan and tabled a request to abandon an undeveloped road and appointed and reappointed the city secretary, municipal court clerk, municipal judge, representative to Upper Leon River Municipal Water District and Economic Development Corporation and Historic Hamilton Main Street boards.

HVFD serves brats to motorists, locals
