Wilburn Rosentreter

Wilburn Rosentreter, 96, of Midland, passed away Wednesday April 24, 2024.

Wilburn was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Wilson to Charles and Amanda Rosentreter.

He completed middle school, worked on his parents farm and was in the Army Air Force at the end of World War II. He was stationed in Tulen, Austria, as a camp guardsman and military police for B-29 bombers and German S.S. prisoners of war.

After returning from overseas, he married the “love of his life, Alice Wagner” and had two children, Don and Beverly. He was also able to continue his education and earned his G.E.D.

Wilburn and Alice were hard-working parents raising their children. Wilburn worked as an outstanding retail salesman for Sears Roebuck & Co. for 28 years and retired from the Midland Independent School District as a special needs bus assistant at age 80.

Wilburn and Alice were a great Christian influence, encouragement, prayer intercessors and sacrificial supporters of their children’s education and calling in life. Don became an L.C.M.S. evangelistic missionary and pastor. Beverly became a Lutheran parochial school teacher until her retirement.

As a firm and faithful believer in Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord, Wilburn was a loving and faithful father and husband. He had a faithful servant’s heart and loved to witness for his Lord Jesus Christ.

He also loved to share the love of Christ in a gentle way with all people. He and Alice had a heart and passion for world missions and for fulfilling the Great Commission to reach lost souls with the Good News of salvation in Jesus Christ.

Growing up, Wilburn loved to hunt and fish. The money he made from his trap lines in Depression times was used to bring extra needed income for his parents and siblings. He loved to fish, especially for big bass. Although he loved to fish, he was a better “fisher of men” for his Lord Jesus all throughout his life.

One of the joys of his life was to be a member of the Midland Northside Lions Club. He was an active and enthusiastic member promoting the goals and activities of the club to help less fortunate people see, read and enjoy a better quality of life.

Wilburn is now home with his Lord in heaven resting from all his earthly labors. He was well-prepared for his heavenly home-going and passed away peacefully in his sleep. He now looks forward to that eternal reunion with his family, friends and all those who have put their faith and trust in Jesus as Savior and Lord.

God was faithful to Wilburn throughout his life and especially with this promise found in Psalm 91:16. “With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

Wilburn is survived by his brother, Eugene Rosentreter; sister, Betty Tischler; son, Rev. Don Rosentreter; daughter, Beverly Pfalzgraff; grand-daughters Amy O’Connor and Abby Pfalzgraff,; grandson Aaron Pfalzgraff; and great-grandchildren Luke and Mackenzie O’Connor.

Wilburn was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Amanda, sister La Verne Pfleuger and wife Alice Rosentreter.
