Tom Wells passed away peacefully Thursday, July 6, at his home in Hamilton, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Wells was born March 6, 1953, in Enid, Oklahoma to parents Thomas “Dale” Wells and Gertrude Wiebe Wells.

He is survived by wife Merridee Wells, of Hamilton, sons Zach Wells of Oskaloosa, Kansas, his wife Shelby and granddaughter Pepper; Wade Wells, of Thedford and his wife Emilee and grandson Buck, sisters Linda Lund and partner Paul Buehler and Roslynn Terrell, husband Greg, nephew Jake Terrell, wife Rebekah and their children. Wells, a respected Angus breeder, was recognized by both the American Angus Association and the American Chianina Association as herdsman of the year by these respective purebred cattle associations. His ability to breed, feed and fit cattle was a trademark of this cattleman.

He judged cattle shows in numerous states as well as the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo (FWSSR) Commercial Heifer Sale and served several years on the FWSSR Ethical Fitting Committee, during the Steer Show.

Wells served as an advisor for the Texas Junior Angus Association and on the board of directors for the Texas Angus Association.

He was active in Hamilton County 4-H and FFA programs, advising youth and volunteering for various youth activities and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hamilton.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 29th at the First United Methodist Church, followed by a celebration of his life at the Fine Arts Center, both located in downtown Hamilton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to American Angus Association Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
