Barbara Swarey

Barbara C. Byler Swarey, 84, of Evant died Saturday, May 27, 2023, of natural causes.

A family graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery in Evant.

Barbara was born Aug. 10, 1938, to parents Christian E. Byler and Sarah B. Shrock Byler. She had 10 brothers and sisters and six half brothers and sisters: Martha, Lizzie, Mahlon, Ella, Alta, Saloma, Ada, Henry, Crist, Noah, Sarah, Andy, David, Ida, Orpha and Sylvia.

Barbara was married to her husband Ezra Israel Swarey for 63 years. She lived her life with dignity and kindness and is known for her laughter, her smile and her love of family.

She loved her children unconditionally and set a good example of patience, joy, wisdom and a willingness to work.

In her spare time Barbara loved to read, especially her Bible. She also enjoyed drawing and always had a huge garden. She enjoyed people and loved to tell stories, especially stories of her childhood.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ezra Swarey.

She is survived by children Sarah Parr, Levi Swarey, Saloma Kelsey, Henry Swarey, Gertrude Atteberry, David Swarey and Kenneth Swarey; grandchildren Sam Sprouse, Kathleen Ernest, Elizabeth Ristau, Carrie Donahue, Elise Smothermon, Travis Atteberry, Cassidy Atteberry, Benjamin Swarey and Caleb Swarey; great-grandchildren, Marion Donahue, Kristen Donahue, Asher Ernest, Liam Ernest, Hannah Smothermon, Norah Smothermon and Micah Atteberry.
