Peggy Lou (Johnson) Dooley
Peggy Lou (Johnson) Dooley, 77, of Temple, formerly a Hamilton resident, passed from this life during the mid-morning hours of Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at her home.
A graveside service was held at Roberts Cemetery in Troy Friday, Feb. 26. There was no public viewing.
She was born Dec. 22, 1943, in Troy to Emery and Tina Johnson.
Peggy has been a resident of central Texas for her entire life; she graduated from Troy High School in 1962.
She married Tom Dooley of Hamilton on Feb. 14, 1990; they built a life together for more than 27 years until Tom’s passing in 2017.
Peggy loved to quilt, sew, gamble, dance, hunt and fish. She enjoyed watching Texas Rangers baseball and Family Feud, she loved Steve Harvey.
Family meant everything to Peggy; she loved being a mother to her children and a “Mimi” to her grandchildren.
Peggy was a six-year survivor of breast cancer. She attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Temple with her brother David, and she was the former President of the American Business Women’s Association (Charter Oak Chapter) as well as an avid bowler.
For several years she operated Alphabets and Stitches, an embroidery shop in Hamilton.
She is preceded in death by her husband Tom, parents Emery and Tina, sister Joyce Holford, four brothers Harry Johnson, Jimmy Johnson, Shorty Johnson and Bobby Johnson, grandson David Toole II and sister-in-law Judy Johnson.
Peggy leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter Rhonda Walker and husband Boyce of Troy; daughter Betty Jo Barnes and husband Tim Wells of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; son Woody Shuler of Belton; brother David Johnson of Temple; grandchildren Jeb White, Samantha Jo Toole, Justin Shumake, Jordyn Barnes, Ryan Shuler, James Barnes, Cody Shuler, Jackson Barnes and Luke Shuler; 16 great-grandchildren; her best friend of 52 years Patsy Melton; her beloved dog Molly; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
