Billie Ramsey

Billie Mae Ramsey joined many friends, family and loved ones to be with the Lord on Aug. 28, 2020, at the age of 96.

Prior to her battle with Alzheimer’s, Billie resided from 2006 to 2015 with her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Clarence “Dick” Dixon in Evant. During those years, she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Hamilton.

Billie, whose given name was Willie Mae Bauer, was born June 18, 1924 in Orchard, the daughter of Kennie Eugene Bauer and Ina Ferguson Bauer. She was the second-born of six children, including three brothers, now deceased, Kenneth Eugene, Walter Lee and Owen Thomas, as well as a set of twin sisters, still living, Amanda Kay and Nora Fay.

Billie’s childhood posed innumerable challenges and difficulties, which resulted in a young woman of strong character and strength, surpassed by very few.

While living in Eagle Lake, she met a handsome young soldier named Rodney Ramsey. They fell in love, married and started a life together that lasted 52 years, until Rodney’s death on Feb. 18, 1995. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Richard Owen Ramsey, Martin Ellis Ramsey, Judith Elaine Ramsey Dixon, Daniel Duane Ramsey and Matthew Wayne Ramsey.

In addition to her five living children, over the years, Billie was also blessed with 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, each one spoiled and cherished by her.

Billie loved cooking, gardening, playing games and being around people. Some of her favorite times, especially after Rodney’s death, were spent at social gatherings sponsored by her church and Senior Activity Center. Her desserts were always crowd-pleasers and her sweet, yet competitive, nature made her a “gamer” to be reckoned with!

Words cannot express how deeply she will be missed but every person she touched during her lifetime realizes how fortunate they were for the opportunity to know her.
