Martha Vaughn
Martha Loucretia Clemmer Vaughn, 93, formerly of Granbury passed away Jan. 13, 2020, in Jacksonville, Florida.
She was born Oct. 5, 1926, in Hamilton to Avery and Odee McCrary Clemmer and graduated from Hamilton High School class of 1944.
Martha married Richard Glenn Vaughn in Hamilton on Aug. 24, 1944, immediately after his commissioning as a Naval Aviator, and they enjoyed 68 adventurous years together.
Following the end of the war, they returned to Hamilton and opened a dry goods store with her parents. When war broke out in Korea, Glenn returned to active duty and remained with the Navy until his retirement in 1969. During these years they traveled the world and lived in such wonderful places as Japan, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Colorado, Virginia and Florida.
Following his active duty years, they moved for the third time to the Washington, DC, area, enjoyed the proximity to all of its cultural advantages, but most loved living near the Chesapeake Bay on the Patuxent River.
While living in Maryland, they continued to travel the world.
In 1996 they made their last move together, returning to Texas and settling down on Lake Granbury. They were avid square dancers, boaters and campers.
In addition, she was a very gifted artist. While living in Japan, Martha was trained in the art of Kamakura Bori and produced many exceptionally lovely carved and lacquered items. She also did sculpting in wood and continued to paint.
While living in Maryland, Martha switched from carving and oils to watercolors and produced an amazing collection of beautiful art.
As a lifelong learner, she pursued studies at University of North Texas, Del Mar College and University of Rhode Island, setting a powerful example for her children and grandchildren.
In 2015 Martha made one final move, returning for the third time to Jacksonville.
She was predeceased by her husband Richard Glenn Vaughn.
Martha is lovingly remembered by her children, Richard and Cindy Vaughn of Glen Rose, Rebecca and Brian Caldow of Jacksonville and Philip and Carolyn Vaughn of Waldorf, Maryland; grandchildren Cindy and Bruce Ceriello and Jason and Kristin Caldow, all of Jacksonville, Tammy Flusche of Fort Myers, Florida,, Kristy Vaughn of Atlanta, Georgia, Christine and Jason Graham of Herndon, Virginia and Kenneth and Molly Vaughn of Virginia Beach, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Austin Flusche, Anne and Emmeline Vaughn Ayla and Brock Caldow and Avery and Bennet Graham.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cedar Bay Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Michaeljfox Foundation.
