Betty Lou Shelton
Betty Lou Shelton, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many, went to join her soulmate of almost 63 years, Benny, who went to be with the Lord on May 18, 2018.
Betty passed away in Odessa September 12, 2018.
A funeral service was held at Faith Baptist Church Sept. 18 with burial in Seaton Cemetery in Leon Junction, Coryell County.
Betty was born Sept. 8, 1939, to Boyd and Fannie James. She married Benny Shelton, the love of her life Sept. 15, 1956. They had four children, Bretta Benefield, Belinda Kay Vogel, Butch Shelton and Barry Shelton. Their spouses are Jim, Scott and Liz, who were also loved dearly by Betty. Scott was always her rock after Benny went to heaven. He promised Dad he’d take care of her, and he did a wonderful job.
In addition, Kay was by her side throughout it all.
Betty was from Odessa, where she was a beautician and mother to not only her four children but many of their friends who loved her with great affection. Benny and Betty moved to Hamilton in 1993, where they enjoyed being out of the fast-paced city life, traveling, gardening and cooking amazing meals for not only her visiting family but also her church. Everyone loved her cooking.
She loved her family with all her heart and enjoyed spending time swimming, playing cards, dominos and acey ducey, in addition to playing on her iPad and phone. Spending time with family was priceless to her, and it was such a joy to be around this strong, brave, amazing, loving and caring woman.
She is survived by her daughters, Bretta and Kay sons Butch and Barry; grandchildren Garrett, Jim Hayes, Samantha, Deidra, Bub, Benjamin, Alex, Nathaniel and Autumn; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers Tex James, Frank James, Harold James and sister Ruby Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Benny; her parents; brothers Boyd Jr., baby boy Albert Dale (Buster), Sherman Wayne and Willie; and sisters Nell Willmoth, Lucille Horton, Ima Adaline, Clara Bell and Shirley Jane.
