Sheldon Perkins

Sheldon Perkins, 88, of Evant, passed away Monday, Oct. 2, 2023.

Private graveside services will be held in Murphree Cemetery.

Sheldon was born April 1, 1935, in Hamilton County, to James Issac Perkins and Edna Sheldon. He lived in and around Evant his entire life.

Other than driving a truck for Faubion Truck Lines, his life’s work was water well drilling and service. Sheldon was available to the public needing water 24 hours a day and seven days a week. He was known for his devotion that no matter when his services were needed, he was ready to repair their well.

He married his “Sweetheart” Belva Jean Gilchrest on Nov. 22, 1987.

Whatever Sheldon did, he was passionate about it. He was a gardener from a young age and was good at it also. His tomatoes were envied by everyone around. His brother, Eldon claimed that Sheldon grew better onions because Sheldon ate his before they got very big. Sheldon and Belva loved fishing and won several fishing tournaments; they were certainly happiest on the lake. It was certainly a sad day for them when they sold their boat. Together, they also enjoyed horse races, dancing and playing 42 dominoes with their friends.

Belva preceded him in death on April 5, 2020.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister Evie Scott; and a sister-inlaw Cindy Perkins.

Sheldon is survived by his sons, Keith Perkins of Houston, Kirk Perkins of Lampasas and Lynn Perkins and wife LaDale, also of Lampasas; stepdaughters Gay McCarty of Gatesville and Beverly Marwitz and husband Scott of Evant; brother Eldon Perkins of Evant; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Leslie Perkins and his son Dylan, Ashton and Mandee Perkins and their children Ace and Scarlett, Gage and Eliana Perkins and their children Zaden and Landon, Colton and Kallen Perkins and their son Rhett, Tyler and Jenna Perkins and their daughter Presley and Lauren Perkins.

The family requests that any memorial donations be made to Evant I.S.D. Heritage Foundation, P.O. Box 133,Evant, Texas 76525.
