Roxie Prescott
Roxie Delma Prescott, 72, of Marshalltown, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at her home.
Memorial services were held Dec. 7 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown.
Roxie Tubbs was born Nov. 7, 1952, in Gatesville, the daughter of John and Geneva (Hill) Tubbs.
Roxie graduated from high school in 1971, and her biggest regret in life was that it was from a school other than her beloved Permian High School (GO MOJO!).
On Dec. 17, 1971, Roxie was united in marriage to Paul Prescott at the Brown Trail Church of Christ in Bedford. They lived in Texas and Arkansas and have called Marshalltown home since 1978 (or 1995 - take your pick).
Roxie had many different jobs over the years, but the one that brought her true joy and fulfillment was being a mother and wife to her family.
She taught many children’s Bible classes and was heavily involved with youth ministry in her early years as a preacher’s wife, in addition to offering invaluable support to her husband throughout his ministry.
Roxie enjoyed sewing, knitting, drawing, quilting and all sorts of crafts, often selling her masterpieces at craft shows.
She was a gifted writer and took pride in writing books for each of her children and several other family members; she was also the genius behind the satirical and infamous camp newsletters of MidWest Bible Camp Special Week 2.
She was a life-long practitioner of high school Español, and she especially loved to speak it with her nuera Betty and Spanish speaking church members.
She was also known to have a bit of a wild streak, as any of the victims of her pranks and ornery mischief can attest (particularly her very trusting husband).
She cherished photos of her loved ones and was crowned Shutterfly’s most valuable customer due to the massive number of canvases she ordered to decorate her home. She had a deep love for her family, especially her grandchildren, who do indeed finally “arise and call her blessed,” as she predicted “many moons ago.”
Roxie is survived by her husband of almost 53 years, Paul; Sus hijos un poco locos, John (Betty) Prescott of Marshalltown, April (Josh) Kearns of Baxter, Amy (Aaron) Harper of Gilman and Mandy (Joseph) Jaye of Loxley, Alabama; grandchildren who lovingly called her their “Bobbi” Katie, Micah, Analyse, Avalyn, Jackson, Hurston, Grayson, Prescott and Ian; the remaining four of the “Fab Five Sisters” Barbara Hejl, Pam McKinzie, Joan Smith and Fay Morris; and two of the brothers they chose for her, David and Mike; mother-in-law Elsie Prescott; sisters-in-law Pat Prescott, Gayle (Martin) Anderson and Sue (Harold) White; honorary sister Kim Bjelland; honorary daughter Raechel Wilkens; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Roxie is preceded in death by her parents, John and Geneva; father-in-law Hurston Prescott; brother-in-law Steve Prescott; and the other two brothers (chosen by her sisters), Ronnie and Tommy.
Roxie will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery between Hamilton and Jonesboro on Saturday, Dec. 28. There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m.
