Rose Roberson

Rose Roberson, 91, passed away Dec. 9, 2023.

Graveside services were held Monday in Gentry’s Mill Cemetery.

Rose was born Sept. 16, 1932, in Hamilton County. Her parents were Elbert Tyson and Mary Ella Kissell.

She was the youngest of seven children. Her brothers were Otis Tyson, J.W. Tyson and Albert Tyson, and her sisters were Elva Hill, Violet Kemp and Francis Keller.

Rose married the love of her life, Henry Roberson, on Christmas Eve, 1948. Together, they had two daughters, Carolyn Balzen and Mary Roberson, and they raised a granddaughter, Deanna Johnston, as their daughter.

Rose spent a lifetime devoted to her family and faith. During her life, she worked hard, retiring at 87 years old.

Depending on how you knew her, Mrs. Rose, Aunt Rosie, Rose Ella, Mom or Granny was the rock for many people. Her listening ear was available regardless of the time.

Her family was never left to question her love for them. In a busy world, she knew the subtle signs of when she was emotionally needed, even when they insisted it was their turn to care for her. Her caregiving was never a burden, but an honor. She often reflected on all those she had cared for and loved and how she would go back if she could. She reminded everyone to slow down because life goes too fast, and that they would want the moments back.

She was loved dearly, and her wisdom is now in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, daughter Mary and husband Henry.

Rose is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Balzen and Deanna Johnston and husband Josh; grandchildren Danitta Witty and husband Justin, Karie Griffin and husband Keith Griffin (deceased), Randy Wheeler and wife Peggy Williams, Melissa Wynne, Kenneth Wayne Balzen, Jason Balzen and wife Sarah, April Kunkle and husband Kasey and Calvin and Weston Johnston; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Rose loved children and believed that education, both in gaining knowledge and the experience of gaining knowledge, created the foundation for their life. Memorial donations may be made to the Rose Roberson Memorial Scholarship, St. Joseph Catholic School, 600 S. Coulter Dr., Bryan, TX 77803. Online giving is available at https://stjosephschoolbcs. org/robersonscholarship, or to a charity of choice supporting children.
