Robert August Marwitz of Holland, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 17, 2025, surrounded by his lov ing family.

A visitation was to be held Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 1 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m. at Goodnight Funeral Home in Bartlett. Burial was to follow in Holland Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 30, 1941, in Hamilton and grew up in the Pottsville area, graduating from Pottsville High School in 1960.

Throughout his life, Robert had a deep passion for music, dancing, model airplanes, trains and woodworking. As a young man, he played the accordion in a local dance band. He attended Blinn College in Brenham, where he met the love of his life at a dance.

On Nov. 28, 1964, he mar ried Dorothy Althaus, and together they moved to Houston, where they welcomed three children, Sheryl, Katrina and Jason.

In 1976, the family relocat ed to Holland, where Robert continued his work as an electrician and farmer for many years.

He dedicated 13 years to serving on the Holland Independent School District board of trustees and was active in St. John Lutheran Church in Bartlett. Additionally, he served in the National Guard for six years.

Robert contributed to the community by making trophies for the Holland Corn Festival 5K race for 18 years and was honored as the Holland Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 2018.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Louise Marwitz, and brothers Milton and Leo.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Dorothy; daughters Sheryl Goodnight and husband Kirk of Georgetown and Katrina Pritchard and husband Bruce of Reeds Lake; son Jason Marwitz and wife Jill of Holland; honorary son Jimmy Parker and wife Rechelle of Bryan; grandchildren Samuel Goodnight and wife Caroline of Parker, Colorado, Jay Sodek and husband Coby of Holland, Erin Kern and husband Chase of Morgan's Point Resort, Erica Gommert and husband Chase of Holland, Ryan Marwitz and wife Amy of Salado and Austen Marwitz of Jarrell; honorary grandchildren Haley Hanson and husband Colton of Calvert and Zachary Parker of Bryan; great-grandchildren Karen and Casey Goodnight, Thomas Kern, Renly, Ryker and Rhodee Sodek, Case, Cole and Whitley Gommert, Colter Marwitz and Karsyn and Laine Hanson; sister Stel la Booker of Rockdale; and brother Jimmy Marwitz of Rogers.

Memorial donations can be made to St. John Lutheran Church in Bartlett, hospice or charity of choice.
