Nellie Rice

Nellie Allen Rice celebrated her heavenly reward Nov. 10, 2024, when she passed away peacefully from this life. A funeral service will be held at the Riley Funeral Home in Hamilton Friday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be in Alpine Saturday at 10 a.m. in Elm Grove Cemetery.

Nellie was born to Clyde and Mertie Bell Allen on July 9, 1927, in Comanche.

Nellie was active in the Hamilton Community including the Extension Homemakers for more than 40 years and a member of the Providence Piecemakers Quilting Group.

She was a member of Providence Baptist Church and Littleville Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for several years. She was secretary of the Hamilton Baptist Association and then went on to do nursing home ministry for many years.

Her grandchildren have fond memories of going with her to sing and minister on Sunday mornings. She loved going to Paisano Baptist Encampment in West Texas every summer for many years.

She was preceded in death by brothers Joe, Bill, George and John Allen and sisters Eulene Morgan, Grace Sparks, Minnie Allen, Neva Howard and Edna Buckmaster.

She is survived by her son Wesley and wife Mary Rice; daughter Laura and husband Chuck Bridge; grandchildren Kendra and husband Grant Garrett, Kyle Rice, Scott and wife Mary Kate Rice and Melody and husband Dylan Smith; and great-grandchildren Evan Smith, Braelyn, Adelyn and Emery Rice and Asher, Truman, Shepherd and Hawthorne Garrett.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice or plant a tree in memory of sweet Nellie.
