Melba Townsend

Melba Gene Alexander Townsend, passed away peacefully at her home Aug. 29, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Services were Tuesday, Sept. 3, at First Baptist Church of Evant. Burial was in the Knox Cemetery.

Melba was born Sept. 13, 1937, on the farm in Lampasas County to Tecompsy and Bessie Connell Alexander. She resided in Evant most of her life and worked as a nurse or in housekeeping in the hospital setting. She was a valued asset to the small community of Evant for many years and will be missed.

Melba had three sons and one daughter, Billy Townsend, Cecil Townsend, David Townsend and Melba Gene Townsend.

She is preceded in death by her sons, Cecil Townsend and David Townsend; her brothers, Dub Alexander, Norman Alexander, Paul Alexander and Albert Alexander; and her sisters Lilly Alexander, Sara Jane Alexander, Elizabeth Alexander and sister-in-law Wanda Alexander.

She is survived by her son Billy Townsend; daughter Melba Townsend; a very dear daughter-in-law, Anne Townsend; a brother and sister, James Alexander and Jane Alexander; and nephew and niece Jerry Alexander and Penny Timmons.
