Longtime Hamilton resident James “Loyd” Crownover, 89, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at Focused Care in Hamilton.

A viewing prior to services will be held Friday, June 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home. The funeral service to celebrate the life of Loyd Crownover will be Saturday, June 27, at 10 a.m. at Riley Funeral Home.

Mr. Crownover was born June 4, 1931, to Clint and Velma Crownover in Seymour.

After graduating from Seymour High School, Loyd married Bonnie Jean Kinnibrugh in 1950. They moved to Hamilton soon after.

Loyd worked for Golightly Chevrolet for 17 years as the Parts Manager. He then co-owned Bob (McFarland) and Loyd’s Exxon where he serviced automobiles for many Hamilton County residents. Loyd served as a Precinct 4 Hamilton County Commissioner for eight years.

Loyd was a member of the Evant Church of Christ. He was a private pilot and cherished the time he spent flying his Cesna 172. Loyd loved spending time with his family at the lake and was known to be a talented water skier.

After retirement, Loyd thoroughly enjoyed his morning walks and visiting with friends at the Dairy Queen Coffee Club. He treasured time spent with his long-time friend Ruby Lee Jones and her family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Velma Crownover; a brother, Bobby; a sister, Ruth; his wife, Bonnie Jean Crownover; and daughter Susie Crownover Gromatzky.

Loyd is survived by his children Mike (JoAnn) Crownover of Brighton, Colorado, and Barbara (Mike) Stefan of Pflugerville; seven grandchildren, Don, Shannon, Melissa, Jenna, Ryan, Jolynn and Jamie; and five great-grandchildren, Keenan, Reina, Trevor, Diego and Casey.
