Lloyd Linehan
Lloyd Duane Linehan passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 16, 2022, in Hamilton.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 29, at 10 a.m. at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Lampasas, and a celebration of life will be Saturday, April 30, at noon at West of the Brazos in Damon.
Lloyd loved nothing more in this life than his family and his horses, even more when he could put those together. Watching his grandchildren ride horses, learn to rope and help him around the barn were his greatest joys.
Even before he had five bouncing grandbabies to introduce to his ways, Lloyd was winning more belt buckles than you could shake a stick at, starting as early as 1977.
Lloyd and his World Champion horse, Chappell Hill Magic (more affectionately known to him and his family as Mighty Mouse), were on a six-year winning streak for breakaway and tie down at the APHA World Championship Show in Fort Worth. However, his most memorable and treasured belt buckle was a world championship goat tying buckle that his granddaughter, Haylee, won at the 2021 APHA World Championship Show.
Lloyd devoted his life to sharing his passion for horses and roping with as many people as he could convince to listen. He touched the lives of many young up-and-coming ropers and ensured that the sport he loved so dearly will outlive him for many years to come.
He was an avid member of the American Paint Horse Association, the Crosstimbers Paint Horse Club, and the Men’s Monthly Breakfast Club of Hamilton. He already had his horse trailer loaded and ready to roll for the first horse show of the season with Crosstimbers on April 16.
Born October 13, 1960, to his loving parents, Hollis “Curly” and Barbara Linehan, Lloyd was then blessed with two younger sisters, Tammy and Tracy.
In his youth he helped his Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame father train horses. He worked on many a ranch in his life, including The 1869 Ranch, showing, training and transporting horses.
He graduated from Liberty Hill High School in 1979 and married his high school sweetheart, Loree Carol Petterson, on Aug. 9, 1980, at Mount Blanc Baptist Church in Bertram.
Lloyd worked for the City of Cedar Park for more than 23 years where he retired as the Superintendent of the Signal Department. He founded and managed both the Pumps and Motor Department and the Signal Department during his tenure.
Not one to truly retire, Lloyd then worked with Stan Nelke doing control work on water and wastewater systems until his last day.
In 2015, he and his wife moved to the community of Hamilton where he spent his final years with the people and animals he loved most.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his father, Hollis (Curly) Duane Linehan, in 2014.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Loree; his son, Russell Linehan and his wife Rebecca, of Midland; his daughter Maegan Guthrie and her husband, Aaron (Shane), of Lampasas; his grandchildren, Haylee Guthrie, Harper Guthrie, Hadlee Guthrie, Flynn Linehan and Heston Guthrie; his mother, Barbara Linehan, of Guy; his sister, Tammy Schwabe and her husband, Glenn, of Bertram; his sister, Tracy Perry and her husband Jamie of Guy; and numerous other extended family members.
The family suggests memorial donations to Crosstimbers Paint Horse Club at 6649 FM 618, Gainesville, Texas 76240.
