Lem Guthrie
Lemuel Howard Guthrie passed away in his sleep on December 12, 2023. He has joined his family and friends and we are sure they are welcoming him with open arms and he is truly happy in Heaven with his Lord. Lem as most people knew him was born August 4, 1940, to George Guthrie and Katie Evans Guthrie, and lived for 83 years.
He grew up and lived his entire life in Hamilton County. He had a mechanical mind and an entrepreneurial spirit. Lem graduated from Hamilton High School and loved his days there, especially being the drum major for the band along with playing in his own jazz band. After high school Lem married his lifelong love Alane Hartin and they had their daughter Paula in 1967 and then in 1970 Steven was added to the family. A quite man but if you knew him you could see a mischievous sparkle in his eyes. He owned Raibourn’s Auto Parts, The Texan Theater, The Texan Video Store, Alane’s SAS Shoes Store and was in partners with his best friend and son in Guthrie Automotive.
He is survived by his daughter Paula Guthrie and Scott Calley of Woodway and his granddaughters Madeline and Casey Guthrie of Hamilton. All of his extended family will miss him but will never forget his kindness.
Lem is preceded in death by his wife Alane in 2013, son Steven “mouse” Guthrie in 2011.
The family gathered for a sunset graveside service on December 19, at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton In honor of Lem, donations may be made to Providence Village Hospice Place, 300 W State Highway 6, 2nd floor Waco, Texas 76712 in his memory.
