John D. Custer

John Debs McCoy Custer of Hamilton passed away July 19, 2023.

A graveside service was held in the Clairette Cemetery July 23.

John D. was born in Austin on Jan. 24, 1941, and grew up on the south side of San Antonio. He grew up a cowboy under the guidance of his father and grandfather. He also worked as a heavy machinery operator before making the move to trucking.

John D. married Sheryla Whiteside and together they had two children, twins Jason and Jonniece.

In 2018, John D. retired from truck driving and spent his time with friends and family.

John D. is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Virta Custer; wife Sheryla Custer; daughters Cheryl Norman and Melanie Sakis; and son John Custer.

He is survived by his daughter, Jonniece Montgomery; two sons, Joel and Jason Custer; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
