Joanie, as she was affectionately known, was born Sept. 23, 1944, to Joe and Lorene Cummings in Sparta, Tennessee.

In 1990, Joanie began her second career at Louis Shanks Furniture in Austin.
In 1994, her third career landed her at Texas Medical Association for the next 20 years where she remained until retirement.
Joanie loved children and was a mother to many. She had deep love for animals of all kinds with special affection for her dogs, especially Marcel.
Joanie was known to be too smart for her own good, somewhat sassy, extremely intelligent and compassionate beyond measure.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband Richard, sons Robert and Joseph and brother Joe S. Cummings.
She is survived by her sister Lori McKinney; sons Richard Dalton and Rick Molina, Randy Dalton and Tina Tomberlin; daughters Amber Boulton and Brad Boulton and Allison Zapata; and grandchildren Bradley and Angela Boulton, Buckey Boulton and Lori Olvera, River and Brady Zapata and Santana Guiterrez.
The family is thankful for all the support Joanie received through her cancer journey, with special thanks to Texas Coffee of Hamilton with Erika Michele, Becca and Sissy Wilson making sure Joanie had her daily lattes and visits; Focused Care of Hamilton and Solaris Hospice for their amazing care, genuine love and support and treating her like family; and Indian Gap Baptist Church for their support and prayers.
In lieu of flowers, Joanie would have wanted all the animals of Hamilton County to have a safe and well supplied shelter to stay until they could find their forever homes. Donations in her name can be made to Hico Police Department Animal Control.
