Jerry Pettijohn
Jerry Dwayne “Big John” Pettijohn, 69, crossed over to the Lord on June 15, 2021, in his home.
Services were held June 26 at Cowboy Church Erath County in Stephenville.
Jerry was born Feb. 29, 1952, in Gorman to Sam and Janiece Pettijohn.
His battle with dementia showed his courage in facing life challenges with determination. Despite the pain and memory loss, Jerry stayed strong until the very end.
Growing up in Comanche County, Jerry was an avid cowboy in his youth and after graduating Dublin High School in 1970 became a successful entrepreneur in the cattle industry, land redevelopment and acquisitions. His greatest business success was in the timber industry, selling firewood and grill wood in five states.
Jerry knew, and was known by many, having never met a stranger he was always willing to help those in need and the less fortunate.
Jerry was a devoted Christian attending Edna Hill Baptist Church regularly as did generations before him.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his two children, Twyla and Mark Cox of Dublin and Brandon and Colley Pettijohn of Fort Worth; four grandchildren, Britan and Maddie Bradford, Brody Bradford and Rae Parker and Briley and Savannah Bradford, all of Granbury, and Charlee Ann Cox of Dublin; two great-grandchildren, Billie Dianne Bradford and Waylon Grey Bradford of Granbury; sister and brother-in-law Oma Lee and Ronnie Brawley; brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Shirley Pettijohn; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
