James Akard
James William Akard, 67, passed away at home on June 9, 2023.
Visitation will be Friday, June 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stephenville Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted by Father Noy Sparks, Priest at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, corner of College and Main, Hamilton, at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17. Interment will follow in Country Oaks Cemetery in Hico.
James was born July 21, 1955, in Fort Worth. He was adopted by William H. and Mary Louise Akard on Oct. 19, 1956. He married his childhood sweetheart, Becky (Holloway) Akard, at St. Mary’s Church July 17, 1976.
In James’ early life he worked as a hay broker, custom farmer and rancher. James was not deterred by hard work and long days. He was later elected and served two terms as County Commissioner in Hamilton County. James was an entrepreneur, having owned several businesses throughout his life.
After retiring, James enjoyed traveling with his wife, spending time with his family and especially becoming a grandfather. He was very active in his granddaughters’ lives and took pride in the role of “Grandy.”
James was a proud member of the Trinity Anglican Church in Dublin. He was a kind, loving and considerate person, always choosing right over wrong and remaining true to his values and be-liefs. This did not mean that he was hesitant to apply his wit and humor to any occasion. He created many lasting memories for his family that are filled with laughter and joy. He was a devoted father and grandfather who created a nickname for everyone. His granddaughters will forever be known as “dancer” and “prancer.”
James had an affinity for sweets, especially those made by his sister, Eloise.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Becky, and his parents, William and Mary Louise.
Survivors include his sons, Will and wife Melissa and Chris and wife Emily; grandchildren Evelyn and Lainey; sister Eloise O’Bannon and husband Mike; and many cousins and friends.
Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Anglican Church in Dublin or St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Hamilton.
Through God’s promise, James has entered his eternal home.
