Jackie Hansen
Jackie Hansen, 85, of Lakeway passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023.
Jackie was born March 15, 1937, Inglewood, California, to Albert and Bertha DuRee.
After graduating Inglewood High School, Jackie attended beautician school – however, her passion was in aviation. One of her first professional roles was with Hughes Aircraft where she was in product design. She later landed a flight attendant position at Continental Airlines where, in training, she met Harry Hansen, a pilot for the airline.
As flight attendants were expected to be single, Jackie and Harry were married in secret in Las Vegas.
The newlyweds settled in Fort Worth. There she gained her private pilot’s license and participated in the women’s pilot organization the Ninety-Nines. After leaving the airline, Jackie turned to raising her three children, JoAnn, Ronnie and Mike.
In 1977, the family moved to Hamilton, where they became members of the Hamilton United Methodist Church. Jackie remained busy in the community, participated in several women’s organizations, theater and taught preschool classes.
For many years, she ran the family’s propane company, turning it around to a successful business.
Jackie enjoyed travel, downhill skiing and arts and crafts, including oil painting, ceramics, stained glass and quilting.
In 2015, Jackie moved to a retirement community in Granbury, then to a memory care facility in Lakeway.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years who passed away in 2018.
She is survived by her children, JoAnn Hansen and Steven Bates, Ronnie Hansen and wife Crystal and Mike Hansen and wife Amanda; and grandchildren Alexis Hansen, Morgan Hansen and Conrad Hansen.
