Deanie Dyer
Deanie May Lewis Dyer, 91, passed away Nov. 14, 2023, in Hamilton.
Services were Friday, Nov. 17, at Riley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in New IOOF Cemeter.
She was born in Hamilton County, daughter of Allen and Norma Lewis.
Deanie married Syl Dyer in Hamilton Nov. 10, 1950. They were married 52 years. Syl preceded her in death. Together they had two children, Randy and Sylvia.
Syl worked for the city for 38 years, and Deanie worked for Hamilton Independent School District for 23 years.
She enjoyed being in charge of meals for funerals at the church, which she did for 55 years and served on many food committees.
Dean and Syl were caregivers caring for her mom and dad as they passed with cancer. They took care of two aunts, Deanie’s brother, then Syl when his health failed.
Deanie’s favorite thing to do was camping with Syl. He fished, and she stayed in the camper, cooked, sewed and visited.
After being retired for 22 years, Deanie and Leanne started a bakery. She enjoyed this and saw many friends from school. She made many fried pies and loaves of sourdough bread. So yes, most of her life involved cooking.
Deanie loved her church, family and all the grandchildren.
Deanie is preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Norma; her husband Syl; and brothers Billy, Gilbert, Eugene and Wayne.
She is survived by son Randy Dyer and wife Patty; daughter Sylvia Dowell and husband Carl; sister Yvonne Butler and husband Burl; grandchildren Leanne Tucker and husband Robert, Scotty Dyer and wife Michelle, Shawna Hollis and husband Layton and Sam Dowell; 12 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews with whom she was very close.
