Billy “Clark” Pumphrey Jr.

Billy “Clark” Pumphrey Jr., 37, of Evant passed away Feb. 13, 2025, at Scott & White Hospital in Temple. From the arms of his loving family he passed to God.
Services were Monday, Feb. 17, at Riley Funeral Home. Burial was in Clifton Memorial Cemetery.
Clark was born in Arlington to Billy and Sharolyn Pumphrey.
Clark was the best friend anyone ever had. Clark had suffered from cerebral palsy since a heart episode at 9 months. He overcame a great number of challenges during his life. This latest event was nonsurvivable.
The love Clark had was immeasurable – ask anyone he contacted, including total strangers in Wal-Mart. He needed no reward for being truly an unconditional giver.
He was a Hamilton High School graduate, played on the Bulldog special bowling team and took many trips to school events. He loved going places and was recognized everywhere.
Clark lived on a mini farm that had goats, chickens, dogs, cats and trespassing unidentified varmints, wide open spaces, skies filled with beauty, a place he couldn’t be lost in the crowd because he wasn’t in a crowd. His friends were forever, just the kind he needed.
Dedication, sometimes this word and commitment are confused or used a synonym with family ties. His family had dedication, understanding and commitment with Clark’s growing needs. That’s what family does and did. Every day kept them busy with his routine, yet love came through time after time, the amazing love of Clark.
Missing someone is difficult; losing a loved one is sad. Neither happened to us because we know he no longer is held back by his limitations. He’s free to run as never before and go places unattainable till now, celebrating with Jesus, again in the loving care of God.
Clark is survived by his parents, Billy & Sharolyn; brothers Stephen and Paul Ward and wife Margaret; sister Rebecca Akpan Ward; grandmother Lucille Pumphrey; aunts DeDe DeCoverley, Linda James and Sandra and husband Dwight Nevil; and many nieces and nephews, grand and great.
