Barbara Jane (Hedin) Damron
Barbara Jane (Hedin) Damron, 78, passed away Dec. 3, 2020, at Hamilton Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held Dec. 8 at Riley Funeral Home with burial in Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
Barbara was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, Sept. 1, 1942.
Barbara was a United States Army veteran and met her husband while they both were serving their country in Korea. When they returned to the States, they were both stationed at Fort Hood, and then they married. They retired from the Army and raised their family in Central Texas.
Barbara then went on to be a teacher at the prison in Gatesville. She was a member of the Women’s Army Corps and also worked at a feed store in Jonesboro and eventually moved to Hamilton.
Her hobbies included playing Mrs. Claus during the Christmas season. She loved doing that as her husband played Santa Claus. She also enjoyed SODOKU, word puzzles and reading scriptures to the ladies who quilted together in Purmela. She was a very active member of the United Methodist Church in Purmela and later a member of Refuge-ministries in Purmela.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and best friend Donald Wilbern Damron (Oct. 12, 1944 – Sept. 24, 2015).
Barbara and Donald had five children, Rebecca, Dennis, Jason, Mary and Kary; and six grandchildren, Amber, Christy, Carl, Rosa, Alissa and Alaura.
