Repairs, senior center dominate county agenda

Hamilton County commissioners met Tuesday morning to approve business, new appointments, bonds and to discuss server storage options and courthouse repairs.

The court approved some reclassifications to line item transfers as well as minutes and bills submitted for $64,863.36.

Hamilton County sheriff Justin Caraway introduced a new chief deputy, Keith Madison. The court acknowledged the resignation of Danny Watson and approved bond for reserve deputy Zachary Ridgeway.

The court discussed NetData software and data hosting on a physical server or in the cloud.

Like Babe Ruth, also referred to as the Great Bambino and the Sultan of Swat, six Hamilton High School seniors left an indelible mark on the HHS baseball diamond over the past four seasons. Due to scheduling conflicts and inclement weather, Hamilton’s senior night ballgame scheduled for Tuesday of last week versus Comanche was moved to Thursday in Glen Rose.

Saturday is election day for Hamilton City Council. City Hall will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the election.

Early voting was unusually busy, according to City Hall staff, who reported 192 early votes cast by mid-afternoon Tuesday. Typically, early votes number in the 70s.

Candidates include George Beard, Henry DeLeon, Eddie Ebeling, John Galindo, Beverly Gilstrap, Todd Jordan and Shelley Voges, and three councilmembers will be chosen.

Billy, Tillie tales will be told

Billy the Kid, Flora Blitz and Tillie Treadway will be walking through Oakwood Cemetery Saturday afternoon.

They will be joined by Bill Chappell, Louis Woodall and Plank Wilson during the Hamilton County Historical Museum’s fourth annual Cemetery Walk fund-raiser.

The living history presentations will be 1 to 4 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery, which is the second cemetery heading north on Highway 281. Admission will be $10 per person; children younger than 10 are free.

HCHD adds 2 units to ambulance fleet

Hamilton County Hospital District has begun a major fleet capital improvement project with the acquisition of two new ambulances.

Hamilton EMS, in partnership with Hamilton General Hospital, remains committed to providing the highest level of pre-hospital emergency medical services possible. These new vehicles bring advanced capabilities to the service area not available until now.

Cinco De Mayo events Saturday at Fair Park

Saturday’s Cinco de Mayo festivities at Fair Park will begin with a taco, salsa and guacamole cookoff starting at 8 a.m. and end with dancing and great music from the Tejas Brothers starting at 9:30 p.m.

Sandwiched in between will be vendors, food, music and family fun.

Matched horse races start at 1 p.m., and bands take the stage at 3 p.m.

A charreria starts at 7 p.m. on the rodeo grounds, showcasing the animal husbandry skills brought from early Spain and blended with ranch work competitions of Old Mexico.

Day of Prayer Thursday

National Day of Prayer will be observed May 2.

In Hamilton, the observance will be Thursday at noon in the Youth and Family Life Center of First Baptist Church. Everyone is welcome.

National Day of Prayer is celebrated by Americans of many religions, including Christians of many denominations, Protestant and Catholic, as well as Sikhs, Muslims, Hindus and Jews, reflecting the demographics of the United States.

On this day, many Americans will assemble in prayer in front of courthouses as well as houses of worship.
