Rentha Roberts
Rentha Jovita (Seabourn) Roberts, 74, of Gustine, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Feb. 15, 2021.
Visitation was Sunday at Harvest Hills Funeral Home in Hico. Graveside service was Tuesday in Siloam Cemetery, Gustine.
Rentha was born in Eastland on Feb. 3, 1947, to Gerald and Sara (McClung) Seabourn. She grew up in Abilene and Eastland. Some of her favorite childhood memories were fishing with her parents, summers spent at her grandparents, playing in the cemetery and catching horny toads.
She married Gary Roberts July 12, 1963, and together they raised five children.
Gary and Rentha bought their farm in the Gustine community in 1972. She balanced working on the farm and always being there to either coach or cheer on her kids at ball games or performances. Family was the most important thing to her, and she always greeted with a “hi darlin’” or “hello baby.” Being a wife and mother was her greatest joy.
Rentha was an avid reader, collector of pretty rocks and wonderful Southern cook. Later in life she enjoyed sitting in the yard under her pecan trees visiting with friends and family or watching her grandchildren play.
She had a natural talent for growing plants and trees and attracting all kinds of birds to feed and watch.
She had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh.
Rentha loved sharing stories of her life, especially one of her most unbelievable about eloping to Mexico with Gary.
Rentha had a beautiful spirit, loved the Lord and believed Jesus as her savior and loved her family fiercely and unconditionally. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Rentha was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Gary Roberts; her children Gary Wayne Sr., (Bylinda) Roberts, Larry (Doylena) Roberts, Kim Roberts, Donna Groeling and Chad (Laura) Roberts; siblings Gerald (Beverly) Seabourn, Rita King, Bonnie (Roger) Pack; grandchildren Larry, Casey, Kristi, Stephanie, Jessica, Lauren, Gary Wayne Jr., Page, Brook, Alyvia, Tyler, Hunter, Andrew and Brynnlee; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends of her children who were like family to her.
Memorial donations may be made to Siloam Cemetery Association, PO Box 224, Gustine, Texas 76455.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hamilton General Hospital for the care they have given Mom over the last several years, as well as Solaris Hospice Care during her final days.
